Eating Meat & Cancer

I just want to share some compelling information I read recently. According to the American Institute for Cancer Research's "Guidelines for Cancer Prevention", the recommended maximum amount of red meat you can eat each week is 18 ounces...that is a week, not a day! If you go over that amount, each additional 1.5 ounces increases your cancer risk by 15 percent. The numbers are even worse if you are eating processed meats. For every 1.5 ounces ounces eaten every day, your colon cancer risk increases by 21 percent.

I don't believe in preaching to anyone about what they should do. All you can do is share information to help educate and inspire. There isn't a template that works for everyone. A vegetarian diet works for some while vegan is good for others. There is a term now referred to as "flexitarian" which means that you consume a very small amount of meat but are mostly vegetarian. We all must discover what works for our body. That being said.......the less meat you eat, the better. If you must eat red meat, make sure it is organic and grass fed. I would even research the farm that is providing the meat. Eating a diet full of colorful vegetables, beans, whole grains and seeds along with daily exercise and learning how to minimize stress is the best recipe for a long healthy life!

Peace,
Maria
