Understanding Homeopathy

I am sure many of you have heard of homeopathy but may not know what it is and what it does so I am hoping to clear that up for you! This is an excerpt from my book "The Holistic Root to Managing Anxiety" however my book goes into a little more detail. Homeopathy is very helpful for anxiety but it can help so many other things as well.

Homeopathy is an extremely safe and effective form of medicine that triggers the body’s own healing mechanism. The main reason I am such an advocate is that Homeopathic medicines do not interact negatively with anything else you may be taking, whether it is conventional or alternative, and they do not have any side effects. Especially in our society where so many people are on prescription medications, it’s nice to have something that you can take and not worry about complications. The remedies are prescribed by symptoms rather than conditions, on the theory each person is different and each person’s illness will manifest differently.

It was developed over two hundred years ago by Samuel Hahnemann. According to Hahnemann’s, “Law of the Minimum Dose” the more diluted a remedy the more powerful its healing properties, therefore homeopathic remedies are given in a much diluted form. Homeopathy is based on the principle called, “The Law of Similars.” What that means is, “like cures like.” An example of the Law of Similars is putting the flu virus into the vaccine for the flu. In homeopathic medicine the patient is also treated as a whole person. Mind, body and spirit are taken into consideration when determining a remedy. We should remember that we possess such a powerful inner-capacity for healing, and Homeopathy works with our body’s inner genius.

One remedy that is helpful for generalized anxiety is a product by Boiron called, “Sedalia.” Put two tablets under your tongue to dissolve up to three times a day when you are feeling restless or anxious. Homeopathic medicine comes mostly in small white pellets that you place under your tongue. However certain remedies such as cough medicine come in a liquid form. They work almost immediately and won’t make you drowsy so they are great to have at work or in your handbag or briefcase for when you feel the anxiety coming on. Boiron also makes a stress kit that has what you need at different times of the day for stress and anxiety. Since homeopathy takes the whole person into consideration to determine a remedy I would always advise seeking the advice of a Homeopath. Homeopathy is great for children and pets as well.

Yours in health,
Maria
