Aromatherapy - Lavender!

Aromatherapy is one of my favorite ways to enhance health! It is so under rated in terms of what it offers as a healing modality. It can help so many ailments. I will be talking about all the oils and herbs and theri healing properties so today I will start with the superstar Lavender!

I don’t know of anyone who doesn't love the smell of this wonder herb. No home should be without Lavender! The most popular of essential oils, lavender not only smells terrific but it can make you look and feel great too! It was used in ancient times to tame lions and tigers so if it can calm them, it can calm anyone. That being said, it has been used to calm anxiety, insomnia, depression, support your immune system and treat skin lesions. It’s great for the skin. One recent study discovered that lavender increased the time you spend in a deep sleep. This list is long but here are a few other ways lavender can be helpful:

It is anti-fungal
Anti-inflammatory, relaxes muscles
Headaches and migraines – on each temple and the third eye
Menstrual camps
Allergies
Asthma
Burns - apply straight lavender right on a burn..I keep it in the kitchen since I tend to burn myself often……..minimize scars
For sunburn relief, and insect bites mix 10 drops of lavender oil to 4 ounces of water in a spray bottle and spray it on as needed.

You can make wonderful sachets with the dried flowers...add it to drawers and closets, put a few drops on a cloth and throw it into the dryer to make your clothes smell wonderful. Keep it in the car in case you feel a little road rage coming on..just take a whiff!
