Credible Websites for Health Information

Many people come to me with information they obtained from the Internet. Some of it is great and some not accurate. The internet is a great resource but it can also cause unnecessary anxiety. If you put the word "headache" in any search engine and read long enough, you may think you have a brain tumor when really its just a headache! However, the information may have also encouraged someone to get something checked  they would have otherwise ignored. So its a double edged sword. Therefore I want to share some websites for health information that are trustworthy. They are researched based sites and sites by credible physicians.

http://www.webmd.com/ - the site is edited by board certified Doctors.

http://www.drweil.com/ - Dr. Andrew Weil is everywhere these days but he is a board certified Harvard educated MD that takes an integrative approach to health.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/ - features a symptom checker tool which makes it very user friendly.

http://www.healthywomen.org/ - This is a site recommended by Dr Oz and has great information on all women's health issues.

http://www.doctoroz.com/ - Who hasn't heard of Dr. Oz. He may be the real wizard! An ivy league educated board certified surgeon and professor, he explains medical terminology and health so we can all understand it.

http://www.healthychildren.org/ - This site was launched by the American Academy of Pediatrics and helps to sift through all issues concerning children's health.

www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ - This site is great for information on prescription drugs and their interactions. There is also information on vitamins, supplements and herbs and their effectiveness.

Yours in health,
Maria
